About Us
Established in 2004, Chumz is a nonprofit organization that has developed a program of older teens mentoring younger teens. Our mission is to equip both mentors and mentees to help them realize their full potential to succeed in life. At the heart of the program is a belief in the power of mentorship for the development of teenagers as leaders and role models. Mentees have an avenue to share problems, which they may be uncomfortable sharing with an adult, with a responsible mentor who is only a few years older and who can best understand and relate to them. Mentees benefit from their mentor's experience and advice regarding social and academic challenges that accompany transitions from junior high school to high school or from high school to college. Targeted schools are in New York City. We train the mentors and organize a special all-year-round program of activities with a different theme each month. Most of the activities are held in Manhattan. We are an Associate Member of the Mentoring Partnership of NY. The Board of Directors are currently volunteering as the Executive Team.
